The Island House Marina is the retailer of fishing, hunting & commercial (VMRC) licenses in Wachapreague. Saltwater fishing license is good for one year from the date of purchase. Our Marina has recently been completely redone, along with the fuel pier, dispensers, and hoses.

We also want to remind folks that we are the booking agent for some of the local charter boat captains. Trident Tackle is open at 5:30 a.m., offering breakfast sandwiches and hot coffee, along with all your bait and tackle needs.

Enjoy the world famous flounder fishing at Wachapreague, VA this summer, or try blue fin tuna at the 21 or 26 Mile Hills, excellent wreck fishing for sea bass or tautog, Inshore trout, drum and croakers, or off shore marlin, tuna & dolphin.

Tucked behind pristine barrier beach islands on the seaside of Virginia’s Eastern Shore lies the little town of Wachapreague. The region, recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, is truly one of the last large wetland habitats in the world.

Attractions other than just the mere beauty of Wachapreague include a vigorous fleet of offshore fishing yachts, terrific inshore flounder fishing, bird watching, unfettered barrier island beaches, hunting, and in short an abundance of nature.

The Island House Restaurant is designed after the old Parramore Island Life Saving Station, which was built in the 1800s. The Island House changed hands in October 2010, and prides itself on serving fresh delicious seafood and prompt attentive service that goes beyond our customer's needs.

Owner Blake Johnson is a transplant from Virginia Beach. A Navy Veteran, he and his wife Martha moved here with their children in 2008. Manager Debbie Shrieves is a native of Wachapreague, and has been working at either Captain Zed's or The Island House since she was 14 years old!

This fine dining yet casual establishment is situated overlooking the tranquil Wachapreague waterfront. From the dining room you can see over the marshlands to the barrier islands. Cedar Island is on the left and Parramore Island is on the right.

There are 18 barrier islands on the Atlantic Side of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the majority of which are undeveloped. They run from the Virginia/Maryland border 70 miles south to the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay.

Of these Barrier Islands, 14 have been preserved as the Virginia Coast Reserve, which are owned or managed by the Nature Conservancy. They comprise the longest expanse of coastal wilderness remaining on the eastern seaboard of the United States. The United Nations has designated the Virginia Coast Reserve a World Biosphere Reserve and the U.S. Department of the Interior has listed it as a National Natural Landmark. These islands help buffer Eastern Shore communities from storms, as well as protect unique coastal habitats, thousands of acres of pristine saltwater bays, marshes, and tidal mudflats.

Cedar Island is both privately and publicly owned. The public lands are owned by both the Nature Conservancy and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Parramore Island is owned by the Nature Conservancy.
